Cyst Removal. One of the most commonly searched blemishes to remove and one of the most satisfying for a Blemish Removal Practitioner to work with. Cysts come in many variations and today I want to talk about Sebaceous cysts.
A sebaceous cyst ordinarily sits below the skin surface and more often than not contains a whitish substance which can take on the smell of cheese or so many of us practitioners believe so. Sebaceous cysts tend to develop when the sebaceous glands, located beneath the skin’s surface, become blocked.
The role of a sebaceous gland is to produce an oily substance called sebum, which is there to lubricate the hair and skin. When these glands become blocked, sebum can then accumulate, which ultimately forms a cyst.
Sebaceous cysts are benign and are usually painless. The only time they cause a pain issue is if they become infected or inflamed. Other than that most clients I see would like them removed, or reduced because they are unhappy with their appearance and/or they are uncomfortable or in a place that they find uncomfortable.
Sebaceous cysts are often found in areas where there is a high concentration of sebaceous glands. Generally, I see cysts on the face, neck, chest and back, however they can develop anywhere.
Below is a client who recently presented with a Sebaceous Cyst on her upper back. She had had it for quite a few years but had decided now was the time to have it dealt with. After all the relevant discussions and health checks we went ahead with the knowledge that we are 99% of the time unable to remove the sac so there is always a chance this cyst could reform.

This client was so happy with the results and simply wondered why she hadn’t had it done sooner!
