Dermatosa Papulosa Nigra Colchester & Chelmsford Clinics. These blemishes are smooth, dome shaped, hyperpigmented brown/black seborrhoeic keratosis type blemishes. These appear mainly on the cheeks, forehead, neck and chest.

Dermatosa Papulosa Nigra can begin to appear in early adolescence and increase or multiply with age. They are very common and affect at least 35% of people with African heritage and people who have Asian and Polynesian ancestry. Unlike Seborrhoeic Keratosis, they do not scale or crust.

When working on Dermatosa Papulosa Nigra in both the Colchester & Chelmsford Clinics with diathermy, (which is my preferred method of treating them), I work extremely carefully on a low current to avoid any issues with pigmentation. Pigmentation is the contra-action we are most concerned about, however, having treated many clients presenting with DPN I have seen amazing results with little-to-no evidence of the treatment ever being carried out.

Dermatosa Papulosa Nigra develops in areas that are vulnerable to friction and irritation. If I am removing this blemish from an area such as the bra strap, I may apply a sterile dressing to protect it.

Skin reactions will vary with every client. Erythema (redness) is expected during and following treatment, which is completely normal to see, and on the very odd occasion, I will see a small oedema (swelling) around the area which tends to go down very quickly. However, when the treatment area is very small this is highly unlikely.

A follow-up assessment of DPN or any blemish I am treating is always required to ensure we have a trace of how the skin has healed and how the blemish has reacted to treatment, should we need to either further treat that particular blemish or treat any multiples of the blemish.

Also as with all other blemishes a skin patch test is required prior to any treatment being carried out. Client care is of the utmost importance to me as a highly qualified and insured practitioner.
