I recently had a gentleman come to see me with a very small area of xanthelasma near his eye. For those who might not know, xanthelasma are small, pale yellowish patches that can appear around the eyes. They’re completely harmless, but they can sometimes be quite noticeable especially when it’s you looking at them in the mirror as such.
For this gentleman and so many others who come for blemish removal, he was keen to point out that it’s not vanity, it’s just something he doesn’t like and doesn’t want. There is never any judgement of course from myself as to why you would like something removed and there is nothing wrong with wanting to feel comfortable and confident in your own skin. This has nothing to do with vanity. Often, no one else even notices the small things that bother us, but they can still take up space in our minds every time we look in the mirror. That’s what makes treatments like diathermy so meaningful. They’re not just about appearance, they’re about peace of mind.

We discussed the treatment in full before starting, how it works, what to expect during and after, and how to care for the area as it heals. The xanthelasma was very small, but my client had decided to take action now before the possibility of it getting any bigger. After carefully treating the area, the difference was clear at the 6 week review. You can see from the photo below how much the colour has reduced. Yes, there’s still a slight trace, but the overall improvement is fantastic.
It’s these subtle changes that can make all the difference, helping to make someone feel a little more like themselves again. It’s not always about what anyone else sees. It’s simply about feeling good when you look in the mirror.
