Skin Cancer

As a skin professional it is important that I can of course be able to ascertain what a blemish is and how it can be treated but to also recognise when something doesn’t maybe look right. I am not qualified to diagnose a skin cancer lets say but what I can do is suggest to my client to get it checked by a doctor.

Throughout my time as an Advanced Blemish Practitioner I have had two clients ask me about certain blemishes that I have asked them to get checked that have turned out to be a cancerous blemish and therefore treatment was required. Both of my clients are able to now tell that tale and I feel blessed that I had a hand in ensuring they got it looked at.

In addition to my Level 4 & 5 training in Advanced Blemish Removal I also gained my certification with MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection)

The MASCED Accreditation Programme has been developed to raise awareness of the early signs and symptoms of skin cancer and to promote the early detection of melanoma, to improve prognosis and save lives.

Their programme has also been developed to raise awareness of the importance of Sun Safety to aid the prevention of around 86% of melanoma and the majority of all skin cancer cases.

You can read more about what they do here: https://www.skcin.org/ourWork/MASCED.htm

If you are someone who works in the industry or the medical profession that you can register here: http://www.masced.uk

There are different levels of Skin Cancers:

Pre Cancerous Skin Lesions

Actinic Keratosis – This in fact was one of the pre cancerous lesions I noticed on my clients nose
Bowens Disease – Very similar to Actinic Keratosis in the way it can develop

Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers

Basal Cell Carcinoma – This is the most common type of skin cancer. It grows slowly over months and years and can damage nearby tissues and organs if it is left untreated.
Squamous Cell Carcinoma – This is less common than Basal Cell Carcinoma. This cancer however grows faster and can spread to other parts of the body. If it is left untreated it can be deadly.

Melanoma

Melanoma is the least common of the cancers Melanoma but by far the most dangerous type of skin cancer you can get. Melanoma is often fast growing and can spread to other parts of the body which then form a new cancer.
