Skin Tag or Filiform Wart?

Wart Removal Colchester & Chelmsford

How do I know?

I see many clients who think they have a Skin Tag when in fact it is actually a Filiform wart. It’s an easy mistake to make as often they can present fairly similarly.

Warts are small, rough, viral growths on the skin usually spread by skin to skin contact or indrectly through shared contamintaed surfaces. Filiform warts are long, slender warts, often seen with what we call fronds and are common on the face and neck and for all these reasons are why they are often to be believed a skin tag. If you think it’s a skin tag then take a closer look, does it feel rough, does it have an uneven head as such, can you see little prongs (fronds) on the end of it.

Filiform warts also favour moist environments, so the nose and mouth area can be a common area.

Filiform warts react very well to diathermy treatment and a couple of techniques can be used for removal dependant on where the wart is and how it presents. The wart can either be simply sliced off or alterntiavely I will use a tap method to dry out the wart and attack the virus which will harden the wart, it will take on a whitish appearance. Over the course a week or so the wart should shrink down and eventually dissappear.

My clinics are held weekly at EM Skin Clinic in Colchester, Essex and you can book online for your intial consultation by selecting Advanced Blemish Removal here.
