Treatment for Verrucas

Verruca treatment Colchester & Chelmsford

Verrucas can be a painful and stubborn condition. Treatments like diathermy offer an effective solution by using heat to destroy the wart at its root, electrocautery provides fast and precise removal, reducing the chances of recurrence and ensuring a relatively quick healing process. Every patient I see in the clinic for Verruca treatment has tried all the home remedies under the sun it seems before their visit so it is a relief to find something that can work effectively for them after often a long road of experimenting.

Verrucas are also known as plantar warts. They are a common and often frustrating skin condition caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that enters the skin through tiny cuts or abrasions. They usually appear on the soles of the feet, and though they are harmless, they can cause discomfort, pain, and embarrassment for many patients I meet. You may also notice small black dots within them—these are tiny blood vessels that have clotted inside the wart.

Verrucas can be painful, especially when they occur on weight-bearing areas, and they may spread across the foot or to other people through direct or indirect contact.

Though verrucas often go away on their own, this can take months or even years. For many, the desire to get rid of the wart means that treatments such as diathermy are a common resolution. This procedure involves the use of heat generated by an electrical current to burn and destroy the wart tissue and to create an immune response to kill off the virus. Depending on the size of the wart, it may require more than one treatment session to fully eliminate the verruca.

Once the verruca is removed, the treated area forms a scab that will eventually fall off, leaving healthy skin underneath.

As you can see from these pictures below, verrucas can appear anywhere on the foot and come in all shapes and sizes.
