Thread Veins Colchester & Chelmsford

Firstly what are Vascular Blemishes?

Vascular blemishes are basically skin imperfections caused by abnormalities in the blood vessels. The blemishes can appear as red or purple spots, lines, or patches on the skin.

Vascular Blemishes are caused by various factors such as  genetics, sun exposure, aging, hormonal changes, and certain medical conditions.

Some examples of vascular blemishes include:

Thread Veins – These are small dilated capillaries that show themselves as thin red lines on the surface of the skin, if they are purple it means they are deeper and wider and cannot always be treated using diathermy or cryotherapy.

Spider Veins – As with thread veins these are small dilated capillaries near to the surface of the skin that have the appearance of thin, red or purple lines but have a feeder capillarie in the middle, making it appear as a spiders web, hence the name.

Cherry Angiomas/Blood Spots/Campbell De Morgans: These are small, red bumps on the skin caused by an overgrowth of blood vessels and very effectively treated by diathermy.

Port Wine Stains: These are large, flat, purple or red patches on the skin caused by an abnormal collection of blood vessels. These are not a blemish that can be treated with Diathermy or cyrotherapy.

Rosacea: This is a chronic skin condition which can be characterized by redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels on the face. It is not know exactly why Rosacea occurs but we know that things such as alcohol, smoking and spicy foods can make it worse. Depending on the level of Rosacea and medication you may be on depends whether or not the thread veins can be treated.

Treatment options for vascular blemishes depend on the type and severity of the lesion. They may include laser therapy, intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, sclerotherapy (injection of a solution into the blood vessel to shrink it), topical creams, or surgical removal. It’s important to consult a dermatologist or skincare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
