Verruca Removal Colchester & Chelmsford. These pesky warts are also known as Plantar Warts, although I am almost certain nobody has ever walked into the clinic asking for help with a Plantar Wart, so for the purpose of what most know them as, we will stick to Verrucas.
These can appear on the feet and can sometimes be mistaken for corns or calluses. Verrucas are flattened by the pressure of body weight and can grow up to 2 cm in diameter, and they can sometimes spread in a cluster. Although I said we would stick to the term ‘Verrucas’ earlier, Plantar Warts can also appear on the hands, and are not called Verrucas when they are here.
If you are struggling to decipher whether you have a Verruca or a corn or callus, Verrucas have tiny black dots under the hard skin and bleed from the pinpoint capillaries, whereas corns and calluses will not. Sometimes a callus can form on top of a Verruca, making it even harder to distinguish. When treating, I will firstly file down any hard skin; otherwise treatment will be ineffective.
Although I treat Verrucas in adulthood, I find many of my clients are children, often picked up in changing rooms and swimming pools in their younger years.
Prior to arriving for treatment, I will ask you to try and soften the skin as much as possible with maybe a warm foot soak the night before and to sleep in cream and foot socks (normal socks are fine). It just makes the process of getting to the Verruca easier and, therefore, the treatment more effective.
It is important to note that following treatment, the Verruca may form a scab which will slowly work up and out of the skin. Once the skin has healed, it will be evident as to whether the treatment has been successful. If any of the Verruca remains, it should appear reduced in size, however, it will require further treatment. Several treatments may be required for medium-to-large Verrucas.
