Stubborn White Bumps? Milia Removal with Diathermy
If you notice small, stubborn white bumps just under the surface of your skin, they are most likely milia. They are small, keratin-filled cysts that often appear around the eyes and cheeks. Unlike a typical blemish that may be growing out of the skin or on top of the skin, milia are trapped under a thin layer of skin, meaning you can’t just squeeze them out, and in fact, attempting to do so can lead to scarring and inflammation. I have seen this many times in the clinic.
Using diathermy, the method I use in the clinic. These milia can be treated non-invasively, providing quick, effective results with little downtime.
How Diathermy Works
Diathermy uses a high-frequency electrical current delivered through an ultra-fine probe. When the probe touches the milia, the energy creates a localised heat (thermolysis) that cauterises the keratin pocket. This process dries out the content so the body can naturally reabsorb it.
It is a highly precise treatment, making it safe for even the delicate skin on your eyelids.
Now, having said that, milia are often small, even tiny bumps; they can also appear larger and may not always occur in multiples. You can get just one or two. In fact, I recently had one develop on my top lash line, having never had one before or any others, which a colleague of mine treated for me.
My lovely client below here, you can see, has a slightly larger milia just below his lash line. Just a few weeks after he popped back to see me for his review, it has completely healed, and the milia is no longer visible.

This is what he had to say about his treatment:
