What causes Warts? These frustrating sometimes unsightly lumps that are damaging clients confidence are far more common than we know, but why do we get them?
They are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). But how do we get the virus I hear you say? The virus genberally enters our top layer of skin via a small cut or scratch. Once the virus is inside the skin it can then result in a rapid growth of cells on the outer layer of skin, this then ends up producing the wart.
This virus is highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person or indirectly through contact with surfaces or objects that an infected person may have touched. Not everyone who carries the virus will develop warts, however certain people that for instance have a weakened immune system are sometimes more likely to pick it up.
The risk is higher if you have skin skin contact with an infected person and walking also for instance barefoot in public places.
To add to the pain of developing warts there is also several types of this virus that can cause a whole array of warts from common warts to filiform warts to genital warts and more.
Whilst warts are generally harmless and can even go away over time on their own, many clients want them removed for cosmetic purposes and for those where they are causing discomfort. Banishing warts in this way will not kill the virus necessarily and more can appear, however the results for clients who suffer with these are a joy to see.
My favorite method of treatment for warts is Diathermy. Within 2-3 weeks depending on the wart it can be gone with little indication it was ever there.
