One of the things I feel really strongly about in my work is that good enough is never quite good enough. The world of advanced blemish removal is constantly evolving, and if I’m going to offer my clients the very best results, I need to keep investing in my own knowledge and skills. That’s not just something I say; it’s something I genuinely live by.
Yesterday I travelled to Birmingham for a masterclass with Sterex, one of the most respected names in the electrolysis and advanced therapy industry. Days like this are honestly one of my favourite parts of the job. Being in a room with other dedicated professionals, picking up new techniques, refining existing ones and coming away with fresh ideas to bring back to the clinic is something I find genuinely exciting. It reminds me of why I got into this work in the first place.
My training journey didn’t start yesterday, though. Over the years, I have built a foundation of qualifications that I’m really proud of. I hold a VTCT Level 5 in Advanced Blemish Removal through Sterex, and I’ve completed the Sterex Dermoscopy and Electrosurgery Course under Dr Mohammad Ayub Khan. I’ve attended the PCDS Dermoscopy for Absolute Beginners course at the Cavendish Conference Centre in London, organised by Dr Tim Cunliffe, Executive Chair of the Primary Care Dermatology Society. I hold my MASCED Accreditation in Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection, which I maintain on an ongoing basis, and I’ve completed the Recognition of Skin Lesions programme, a CPD-accredited course led by Dr Ausama Atwan, Consultant Dermatologist, covering dermatoscopy and the identification of benign versus suspicious lesions. I also work in ongoing collaboration with Dr Toby Nelson, Consultant Dermatologist at Map My Mole, who provides a formal review pathway for any lesion that raises my concern.
But my commitment to raising standards goes beyond my own training. Something I’ve been working on recently is building stronger relationships with GPs and medical professionals in the local area. I’ve been reaching out directly to surgeries to introduce my services and open up a channel of communication, so that when patients come to them with skin concerns that fall outside what the NHS can offer, they know there’s a trusted, experienced specialist they can refer them to. It matters to me that clients arrive knowing they’ve been pointed in the right direction by someone who knows their medical history.
For you as a client, all of this means you’re in genuinely safe hands. When you sit in my clinic, you’re not just getting someone who learned a skill years ago and has been doing the same thing on repeat ever since. You’re getting someone who is actively out there learning, connecting, and ensuring that the treatment you receive reflects the very best this industry has to offer.
That’s a commitment I take seriously, every single time.
