Can I remove Skin Tags myself?
Skin Tags are a vascular blemish which means they have a blood supply and they can also on occasion have nerves. This means when attempting to remove yourself via the means of scissors or some other methods it can result in heavy bleeding and the potential of infection.
There are many ways I have seen in which to remove a skin tag using ‘at home’ methods. Quite honestly they all horrify me, from kits you can buy online to just home attempts such as tying string around them. Believe it or not I have actually had a client visit me with string embedded into his skin from a failed home attempt at removing a tag on his back. He had his wife tie the string around the base and unfortunately all that occurred was bleeding and a piece of string making home in his skin. We did manage to rectify what had happened but you can see why I am against it!
When seeing a professional they will generally either use the method of freezing so in my case I would use the Cryopen M for Skin Tag Removal, its a fast, effective way of eliminating Skin Tags using high pressure Nitrous Oxide or Diathermy so in my case I use the sterex machine to deliver a small electrical current via a very fine needle cauterising the skin tag. This method is instant.
So on the whole skin tags should be left to the professionals to remove.
