I’m Amy Gordon, and advanced blemish removal and skin rejuvenation is all I do. I’ve treated blood spots, skin tags, moles, warts, milia, and a wide range of other blemishes for over 25 years, working from my private clinics in Colchester and Chelmsford. Before any treatment, every growth needs a proper assessment. Not everything that looks like a blood spot is one. Other vascular lesions and skin growths can look almost identical, and some of those need a very different response. I am MASCED accredited (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection trained), which means I’m specifically trained to assess lesions and identify anything that warrants further investigation before any removal takes place. If I see something I’m not comfortable with during your assessment, I will ask you to get it checked by a GP, or I work alongside consultant dermatologist Dr Toby Nelson, with whom I can create a report and imagery of the blemish to ensure it is OK for treatment.
This level of clinical assessment isn’t something every clinic offering blood spot removal can provide, and it’s one of the most important reasons to choose a specialist.
Your appointment begins with a thorough visual assessment. I’ll look at the blood spot in detail, its shape, colour, size and the surrounding skin, and confirm that what we’re dealing with is a benign lesion suitable for removal. In the vast majority of cases we can proceed with treatment in the same visit.
Treatment is carried out using advanced diathermy, a precise, fine electrical current applied directly to the blood spot, cauterising the small blood vessels that form it. Most clients are surprised by how quick and manageable the treatment is. A single blood spot takes only a few minutes, and we can treat several in one session depending on their size and location.
After treatment, a small mark forms over the site and typically fades over the following days and weeks. I’ll walk you through your aftercare in detail before you leave. It’s straightforward, and most clients return to their normal routine the same day.
Your six- to eight-week follow-up appointment is included at no extra cost, so I can check that the skin has healed well and answer any questions you have along the way.

Is blood spot removal permanent?
Yes. Once a blood spot has been removed using diathermy, it will not return. However, if you are prone to developing blood spots, new ones may appear over time. We can treat these at a future appointment.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a brief warmth or mild stinging during treatment. It’s well tolerated, and the whole process is quick.
How many can be treated in one session?
This depends on the size and location of the blood spots. In most cases, I can treat several in a single appointment. I’ll give you a clear indication at your assessment.
Will I be left with a scar?
Diathermy is a very precise treatment, and the risk of scarring is low. A small mark forms and naturally fades over the following weeks, leaving clean skin in the majority of cases. I’ll discuss the realistic outcome for your specific skin at your appointment.
What if I’m not sure whether it’s a blood spot?
This is exactly what your assessment is for. You don’t need to know what it is before you come in. I’ll assess it properly and tell you what we’re looking at before we do anything. Can you treat blood spots on the face or body?
Yes. I regularly treat blood spots and other blemishes across the face and body. The precision of diathermy makes it well suited to a wide range of locations, including areas that require particular care.
How soon can I have treatment?

Are there any reasons I might not be suitable for treatment?
There are some contraindications to treatment, including pregnancy, certain medical conditions, and active skin infections in the treatment area. I’ll discuss your full medical history during your consultation and let you know if there’s anything that affects your suitability.
