The Timeline You Need
There’s a particular kind of phone call I get. A bride, sometimes a groom, sometimes a mum of the bride, asking if I can squeeze them in before the big day. The wedding is in three weeks. Could I fit them in next Tuesday?
Sometimes the answer is yes. Often, it isn’t, not because I don’t have availability, but because their skin needs more time than they have left.
Here’s the honest timeline:
Six months before the wedding: book your consultation
This sounds early. It isn’t. A consultation gives us time to assess the blemish, perform a patch test, see how your skin responds, and plan accordingly. Some blemishes, such as larger seborrhoeic keratoses, certain moles that need a dermatologist’s sign-off first or clusters of milia which need more than one session, with healing time in between, need this time.
If you’re considering my mole/blemish check service for anything that hasn’t been checked, factor in around 72 hours for the dermatologist’s report to come back, plus time to act on it.
Three to four months before: ideal treatment window
This is the sweet spot. Most blemishes will have fully healed, any redness will have settled, and if a second session is needed, there’s still time to fit it in. It also means we’re working before peak summer sun exposure (if you are getting married in the summer of course), which matters more than people realise. SPF and aftercare are non-negotiable while skin is healing.
Six to eight weeks before: still possible, with limits
Smaller, straightforward treatments such as a thread vein, a single skin tag, or a small milium can usually be done in this window and healed comfortably in time. Anything larger or anything that may need multiple sessions becomes a harder conversation.
Two weeks before: please don’t
I know it’s tempting. But a scab, redness or a healing wound in your wedding photos is the opposite of what we’re aiming for. If you’ve left it this late, I recommend booking after the wedding so your skin has time to recover.
If something has been bothering you and a wedding is on the horizon, the best thing you can do is start the conversation early. Even if treatment isn’t urgent, knowing the plan takes the pressure off.
